MetSO’s Winter Concert
2023 Season

Sunday 25th June, 3pm

Venue :
Taryn Fiebig Concert Hall
Churchlands SHS

This winter, let your spirits soar on ebullient updrafts of musical energy; dance with the “Paper Umbrellas”, float on the delicate breezes from the Hush Project, and experience the joy of “40 Reasons to be Cheerful”. Here is your sonic palette to brighten up the winter greys.

This concert is a feast for the senses, showcasing an array of young talent, including gifted pianist Chern Yue Khor performing Schumann's dramatic piano concerto (1st Mvmt), and Royal Overseas League Award Winner Madeleine Wickham Brown performing a series of "Bad Boys" - male roles intended to be sung by women. The concert will also feature iconic works by prominent Australian composers Elena Kats Chernin, Iain Grandage and Graeme Koehne.

Madeleine Wickham Brown is an 18 year old Classical and Music Theatre singer, who graduated last year from Mercedes College with a 100% Practical Exam WACE result.

Maddie’s vocal range, tone and effortless power will astound. She is preparing to commence her Bachelor of Classical Voice at the Royal Northern College of Music later this year. You will not want to miss this performance, before she heads overseas.

Chern Yue Khor (17) started playing the piano at the age of 4 and won her first eisteddfod in Austria a year later. She has been under the tutelage of Dr. Raymond Yong since her family emigrated to Perth in 2014. At ages 12 and 13, Chern Yue completed her Associate (AMusA) and Licentiate Diploma Exam (LMusA) with the Australian Music Examination Board - extraordinary achievements. Chern Yue’s technical ability, artistic prowess and musical sensitivity is truly remarkable.

MetSO is thrilled to welcome the dynamic conductor Elise Chong to our podium. She is the recipient of the 1998 WA Citizen of the Year Syd Donovan Youth Arts Award and subsequently inducted into the Western Australian of the Year Hall of Fame honouring her significant contribution to the community. Elise has toured and performed in Europe, Asia and the USA as a cellist, conductor and educator.

This will be an exciting event with diverse performances that will captivate audiences of all ages and from all backgrounds. Witness the future of classical music in action!
