Chern Yue Khor (17) started playing the piano at the age of 4 and won her first eisteddfod in Austria a year later. She has been under the tutelage of Dr. Raymond Yong since her family emigrated to Perth in 2014. At ages 12 and 13, Chern Yue completed her Associate (AMusA) and Licentiate Diploma Exam (LMusA) with the Australian Music Examination Board.
In 2021, Chern Yue was awarded the Subject Exhibition for Year 12 ATAR Music whilst she was a Year 10 student. In the same year, she won first prize for the Fremantle Eisteddfod Under 18 Recital Section and West Australian Pianists’ Competition Open Solo Championship Recital and Under 18 Solo Recital Section. She was a Rising Star performer for the Music on the Terrace program at the Government House Ballroom in 2022 and her most recent performance this year was playing the Schumann Piano Concerto at St George's College.
Chern Yue has participated and won numerous eisteddfods and competitions around the world. This includes the International Eurasia Youth Music Competition in Austria, 7th Mozart International Piano Competition in Italy, 6th International Youth Arts Festival in Malaysia, Asia Piano Music Competition in Taiwan, and the Sydney Eisteddfod, just to name a few. She is also an active participant in Perth eisteddfods winning recital and concerto categories in Fremantle Eisteddfod, WA Pianists’ Competition, the Australian Piano Warehouse Competition and the Edna Warren Memorial Competition.
Chern Yue also studied and participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists overseas and locally. Her mentors include Prof. Ayami Ikeba from University of Graz, Prof. Gereon Kleiner from the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Dr. Bernadette Harvey from Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Dr. Kim Bo Kyung from University of Malaya, Italian pianist Prof. Paolo Vergari in Napoli, Perth pianist and conductor Mark Coughlan, and most recently with Armenian pianists, Prof. Armen Babakhanian and Seta Tanyel.
In addition to playing piano solo works, Chern Yue has developed an interest in chamber music and is also a violinist. She completed her AMEB Grade 8 with high distinction and is a first violinist in the Perth Modern School Symphony Orchestra. Chern Yue is looking forward to continuing her musical journey after she completes her Year 12 studies.
