MetSO Young Artist - sensational violinist and composer Ellie Malonzo takes centre stage in this captivating concert that will leave you spellbound. 13-year-old violinist Ellie Malonzo commenced her violin studies aged 5, and is fortunate to be studying under Winthrop Professor Paul Wright. She has already won high national and international praise for both her brilliant instrumental performances, and also her extraordinary talent for composition.
Ellie will showcase her exceptional virtuosity and masterful interpretation of Norwegian composer Christian Sinding’s charming Suite in A minor -” Im alten Stil” (in the Old Style). Ellie’s achingly beautiful rendition of this romantic gem will transport you far beyond the realm of mere soundscapes to a higher musical plane.
Ellie will also lead the glorious orchestral dance with the violin obbligato for Saint-Saëns deliciously playful “Danse Macabre”, as well as standing alongside world-renowned violinist Ronald Thomas AM as dual soloists, to bring to life her breathtaking original composition for two violins and orchestra.
What an astounding array of musical performances! This intoxicating mix will no doubt have you in an inner dance of musical delight; Warning - it may become increasingly impossible to sit absolutely still. Not to worry, a little subtle stationary dancing whilst remaining seated is highly recommended - you will thoroughly enjoy the experience.
Your wonderful afternoon’s entertainment, which also includes Liszt’s moving Symphonic Poem - Les Preludes, Grieg’s vivacious Norwegian Dances and more - has been carefully crafted for you by fabulous local conductor Sara Duhig. We are thrilled to have Sara at the helm of the MetSO for this season, particularly with her expertise as an expert violinist in her own right coming to the fore, in designing this outstanding orchestral program.
This concert promises to be an afternoon of pure magic, with a diverse program that blends classical artistry with the spirit and energy of festive folk dances.
