Shuan Hern Lee with WASO - 2020

Shuan Hern Lee with WASO - 2020

(By Nami Ogishima)

Shuan Hern Lee is one of the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra's original Young Artists - in fact one might say he was the catalyst to the success of this program.

He made his debut with MetSO at 10 playing the Grieg Piano Concerto under Christopher Dragon in 2013. He has since performed internationally in concert, and has won many prestigious competitions across the globe, most notably 1st prize in the 2019 Jr Cliburn Competition and Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, Connecticut.

Currently a student at the University of Western Australia as well as the International Piano Academy In contri Col Maestro of Imola, Italy, Shuan Hern continues to study with his father Yoon Sen Lee (who has been his primary teacher since he was 2), and Ingrid Fliter.

In 2019 Shuan Hern performed Gershwin's Raphsody in Blue with WASO to great acclaim, and has been re-engaged to perform the celebrated Beethoven Emperor Concerto on November 27th-29th with Peter Moore at the podium. WASO will also be performing Brahms Symphony No. 4.

Shuan Hern is rapidly gaining international recognition as a soloist, and the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra are extremely proud and happy to have shared in his journey thus far. We congratulate him on his success, and are excited for his performance with WASO this week, where he will no doubt dazzle his audience.

Shuan Hern is an imaginative, sensitive and powerful musician and had always possessed a maturity in the approach to his music far beyond his age. The drive and stability of his performance, coupled with the tenderness and depth of his musicality make him an inspiration to perform with. It has truly been a pleasure to watch him develop from a talented child prodigy to the heartfelt, brilliant musician and kind, warm young man that he is today. MetSO looks forward to sharing the stage with Shuan Hern again in the future.

Shuan Hern Lee will be giving three performances with WASO of :

The Emperor,
