MetSO - The Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, one of Perth’s oldest community orchestras - is very excited to be partnering with the Zenith Music Group : Zenith Music & Snadens Pianos - in the pursuit of our shared goals - supporting community music making in Perth, Western Australia.
The MetSO is a 44 year old not-for-profit community orchestra, registered Australian Charity (2015-), and Act-Belong-Commit Partner (2020-). MetSO was further recognised in 2021 by being awarded the patronage of The Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia.
Zenith Music is a highly regarded family business, owned and run by the Cranfield family. Zenith is often called “The Best Music Shop in Australia”.
Snadens Pianos has been a Perth family business for 100 years (since 1921), and operated for the last quarter century by the Cranfield Family/Zenith Music, who purchased Snadens in 1997. Snadens is considered to be “Perth’s Premier Piano House”, trusted by generations of Perth music lovers.
MetSO and Zenith/Snadens have very deep roots in the Perth music community; between the three organisations, we have a combined total of nearly 200 years of service to WA music (that is a mind-boggling 2 centuries worth!).
MetSO is proud to support two of the oldest and most highly respected “bricks and mortar” music businesses in Australia - Zenith Music & Snadens Pianos. We in turn, are very grateful for the support that Zenith/Snadens have always provided to the entire Perth music community, and of course in particular to the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in our long years of association. This new level of partnership will serve to further deepen and strengthen these ties.
Although we have been very lucky here in Western Australia compared to many other parts of the world, this last Covid year has brought difficult times for our Arts sector, for retail businesses, and the wider community in general.
Zenith continues to do a great deal to support the arts in WA. One of their many ways of contributing, has been to sponsor the Government House Foundation of Western Australia, and their Music on The Terrace series. In partnering with MetSO, Zenith/Snadens are furthering their long-term commitment to community music making, and supporting our senior MetSO symphony orchestra, the MetSO Intermediate String Orchestra (The MISO), and our new entry level string ensemble MISO Avanti.
We know that many of our Perth music organisations and individual music lovers have made purchases from their long-term wish lists during 2020, to help our music industry where possible. Early last year, the MetSO chose to upgrade to a high-tech Kawai digital piano for our rehearsal space, relying on expert personal advice from Snadens Pianos, given to our multi-talented conductor/artist Raymond Yong; we selected a wonderful instrument to advance our fantastic MetSO Young Artist program.
Zenith/Snadens gives musicians and music enthusiasts the opportunity to walk into a musical wonderland, and explore to their heart’s content. A place to chat about their musical needs and dreams with experienced musicians/staff, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The video below, made by the City of Claremont for Zenith’s 50th Anniversary, gives you a first hand peek into the world of Zenith Music. This delightful piece introduces you to many of the musical Cranfield Family and their long-time staff. It highlights their dedication to the benefits of music making for the wider community - for people of all ages. Enjoy!
During last year’s stricter Covid restrictions, Snadens Pianos kindly made their store available for the filming of a special performance to the world - as part of the Fazioli@Home series. This showcases the talents of two of Perth’s finest musicians :
Andrew Nicholson - Principal Flute of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) &
Mark Coughlan - Concert Pianist, Conductor, Music Educator +++
Fazioli pianos are world renowned instruments. This year two of our own MetSO Young Artists 2021 (Kaining Wang and Tina Algeri) will be performing with MetSO on the magnificent Fazioli at the Churchlands Concert Hall, Churchlands Senior High School - in our Act-Belong-Commit MetSO Young Artist (MYA) Concert Series 2021 (see our upcoming season page for more details).
