Lynette Swarbrick

Music Educator
Music Director MISO/Avanti

Lynette is a Perth-born music educator with a passion for teaching orchestral string instruments and ensemble skills to all who are interested.

Lynette worked as a string specialist in schools for many years before settling more recently on home based studio teaching. In returning to ‘teaching in the suburbs,’ it became clear that their was need of a non-school based string ensemble education program. Such a program could cater for the many local adult learners, home-schoolers and school children without in-school string programs.

MISO (MetSO Intermediate String Orchestra) was consequently launched in 2020 under the auspices of MetSO, the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. The MISO Avanti for more elementary players was added to the team the following year.

MISO has since proven itself to be a successful community development initiative, helping amateur players gain the complex ensemble skills needed in string and symphony orchestra settings. With weekly rehearsals and regular performances, MISO provides a friendly and inclusive learning space. Its existence promotes greater access to the Community Arts scene by its inclusion of players of all ages at beginner and intermediate learning stages.

MISO Avanti, MISO, MCO and MetSO welcome string players to ‘Join In and Play’ at their current comfortable playing level, where they can share the joy of honing their musical skills and performing for the benefit of the wider community.
