Chua


Alexander Chua leads a double life as a doctor and a pianist. He has worked at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Osborne Park Hospital and St John of God Subiaco. He has performed as a soloist with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Doctors Orchestra and Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Other performances include solo recitals and chamber music concerts.

This year he was a quarterfinalist at Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition. Previously, he won 1st Prize at the Chopin Avenue International Piano Competition and 1st Prize and the People's Choice Award at the St George's College Piano Competition. Alexander is a long-time student of Mark Coughlan and has also taken lessons and masterclasses from internationally renowned pianists such as Thomas Hecht, Piers Lane, Kathryn Stott and Lukas Vondracek.

In his teenage years, Alexander competed in many mathematics competitions and represented Australia at the 2013 International Mathematical Olympiad in Colombia, winning a bronze medal. He graduated from Christ Church Grammar School, winning a Course Exhibition in Mathematics and a General Exhibition, placing him 5th in the state.
