Chua
Alexander Chua leads a double life as a doctor and a pianist. He is currently employed by the North Metropolitan Health Service. He has performed as a soloist with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and the West Australian Doctors Orchestra. He has also performed with the St George's College Orchestra at their popular Christmas in the Quad event, and with the Vienna Pops Orchestra at the New Year's Eve Concert.
Along with performing with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, other highlights for the year include various chamber music concerts. He has won numerous prizes at competitions, including 1st Prize at the Chopin Avenue International Piano Competition and 1st Prize and the People's Choice Award at the St George's College Piano Competition. Alexander is a longtime student of Mark Coughlan and has also taken lessons and masterclasses from internationally renowned pianists such as Thomas Hecht, Piers Lane, Kathryn Stott and Lukas Vondracek.
In his teenage years, Alexander competed in many mathematics competitions and represented Australia at the 2013 International Mathematical Olympiad in Colombia, winning a bronze medal. He graduated from Christ Church Grammar School, winning a Course Exhibition in Mathematics and a General Exhibition, placing him 5th in the state.
